Columbia School District’s music program is dedicated to excellence and professionalism both inside and out of the classroom. With a wide range of note worthy music programs, the Columbia Music Association offers students a variety of opportunities to challenge themselves musically while building lifelong friendships.
Columbia Middle School Bands
Starting in middle school, students are taught the fundamentals of musicality including tone, rhythms, how to read music, and how to play their respective instruments. Students are encouraged to practice regularly at home in order to better perform during class concerts. Such self-discipline is invaluable not only to each student growth as a musician, but also to his or her continued development as a student and citizen. To show their parent’s what they have learned, students take part in multiple performances each academic year.
Columbia Central High School Band
In high school, a student’s musical career is greatly enhanced through competitive marching band, color guard, concert band, and drumline. Each student is also able to participate in pit band during the spring musical. At this stage of their musical career, students are presented with more difficult music and a more demanding schedule, but they immediately find themselves surrounded by supportive peers and staff eager to help them succeed.
